Courtship Dance Jewel Box

Inspiration:
The ancient courtship dance of it all: the seductive petal by petal unfurling that draws the bees, the endless story of the synchronized movements of the sun and moon, the easeful shared movements of mated pairs of birds, the rebirth of the tiniest velvety oak leaves from a tight bud that emerge to drink the sun. The hands that coax life just for the pleasure of getting to be a small part of the love story of the land in spring.

Materials:

The box was crafted with care by Roy Arthur Blodgett from beautiful old growth redwood, and has been finished with a mix of natural dark tung oil and citrus solvent.

With time, the copper will form a patina, which is part of the magic of the material! If desired, you can lightly buff the metal with very fine grade steel wool to bring some of the shine back to the high parts of the relief imagery. This will increase the depth and contrast of the images. These boxes age well!
